Liverpool International Street Carnival

S I A artistic director Ray Mahabir was engaged by Brouhaha in 2003 to design and direct their carnival arts programme involving the diverse community groups from Merseyside to develop an international street carnival.

This event delivers a wide range of carnival and street performance arts programmes with 40 local educational and community arts projects throughout North West region and collaborating with 30 International streets performance groups.

Liverpool S C has become a model large scale community carnival project and is now the largest single community carnival in the UK.

Southwark Youth Carnival

From a single training educational arts project 5 years ago SIA has worked with Southwark Youth and Connexions services that has now created a major youth carnival in one of the most culturally diverse communities in London.

This project allows young people to be involved in a carnival arts education projects, engaging in different culture and community groups from other parts of the United Kingdom.

Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill carnival is the largest street festival in Europe.

S.I.A was engaged by South Connections to design and deliver their carnival production for Notting Hill from 1998, this lead to five successful productions and the creation of two winning years.

Within a carnival production, the hub of activities and the costume making is created in the ‘mas camp’. Working with South Connections S.I.A gave the community the opportunity to be involved in one of London largest mas camp environments created to date.

S.I.A has perfected the art of ‘Mas camps’ and creates a homely atmosphere where professional and non professionals participants and performers can work together to achieve a high quality carnival production.
